Good Friday Grass

Also known as Field Woodrush, this member of the rush family is relatively common throughout the UK in a range of relatively infertile grasslands. It was one of the many species that we found during the first field trip of the South Lincolnshire Flora Group to the village of Thurlby, which lies on the fen edge. It's presence is often suggestive of a richer that average grassland flora, and in the churchyard and several grass verges we found it growing alongside Common Sorrel, Bulbous Buttercup, Meadow Buttercup, Cuckooflower, Cowslip, Primrose and Mouse-ear Hawkweed. A very good way to spend a fine spring day!
