Diary of an Edinburgher

Everything is going to be alright

An early half an hour on the cross trainer torture machine, then an hour and a half painting another mile or so of skirting, picture rail and door frames in the hallway. More than half way round now.

OK. I lied about the first bit. No cross trainer. Tomorrow.

It was another nice day, so I decided to paint early on and then go out. I had thought of going to the beach, but when I got out it was a bit windy, so I jumped off the bus and went to the Gallery of Modern Art. Sorry - Modern One.

I went to the top of the Landform to take a photo. As I was about to take it, a big blue bus pulled up right in front of the building. There was a chap in a kilt trying to round up a bus load of young ladies in brightly coloured trousers. Some of them had been sketching. The kiltie was like a wee old Andy Stewart. What's the word for walking around so that his kilt swirled and skirled? Is there a word? Jaunty. Anyway, I could see him trying to get them all on the bus, but some escaped and ran down to the grass to take more photos. I sat down and waited until they were all gone.

I must say, if the green slime on the water is part of the art form, I prefer it without. I popped in to see Mr Picasso. I don't understand all of his work, but I wouldn't mind owning one...

I like cafes that allow you to pick which scone you'd like. I accidentally had the biggest one.

Walking back through town, I met a former colleague from many years ago, a young man who was very talented in many ways. He was a Learning Assistant while he was with us, but he's now teaching and had just been for an interview for a job in the city. We had a bit of a yak about kids we knew then and wondered what they're doing now. He's a keen photographer, so of course I told him about blipfoto. I hope he gets the job.

The neon sign on the front of the building says 'Everything is going to be alright'.

I hope they're right.
