State of Play

Woken by the dogs at 5.30am. They obviously couldn't contain their Mother's Day love. Dogs; surely the only living things on earth that you can honestly say are always genuinely pleased to see you, be with you and sad to see the back of you.

But today surely had the makings of a beautiful day, Sun drenched and Spring bound, just ripe for family picnics and adventures. I miss the days of home made cards, a scraggy picked flower and days out returning tired but very happy. But the days and years wait for no one. So the beautiful day turned into three dog walks, six loads of washing, a couple of Sam chauffeuring duties, hedge cutting, subway for lunch and tinned soup for tea.

Very glad of a restorative visit to Mum's to wish her a Happy Mothers Day with Tess and the hairy hounds. My favourite Mother's Day will always be the day we all walked around Loch Kinnord with Mum. I lost my watch that day, but easily gained so much more. But back to today and Tess is trying to wind up Josh here, suggesting she is the no.1 grandchild; but as always Grandma is the constant diplomat, and has infinite capacity to spend time with, worry, care about, be proud of, be interested in and enjoy laughing with all of her grandchildren.
