Common Enchantments

Horseshoe Bend

At Page, AZ..a view from the top at the Colorado River as it meanders around this huge rock.  The Colorado travels from Rocky Mountain National Park where its headwaters begin, through Colorado, Utah and Arizona.   We had a walk of about 1.5 mile (2.4km) from the parking lot to the outcropping overlooking this scene.   It is a good thing I am not afraid of heights!

In the extras are some shots of Lake Powell at Page, where the Colorado River is dammed by the Glen Canyon Dam to provide electricity for the southwest US.

We also visited the lower canyon of Antelope Canyon where we walked for over an hour inside the earth.    The canyon has been cut out by water over many, many years.  The colors of the sandstone are amazing.  According to Joyce's Fitbit walking recorder we walked about 24 stories up and down in this walk.  The ladders were vertical and steep in some spots.  It was really strange at the end of the walk to step through a crack in the earth.   I hope to make a slideshow of my canyon shots to share in the future.  A few shots of the Canyon in the extras.

A really wonderful day despite having to dodge rain showers! (an extra of one of the storms) Spending the night in Tuba City, AZ.   Tired and maybe we will sleep a little later tomorrow as we plan to head over to the Petrified Forest at Holbrook.
