The Waverley
Today we decided to spend the day in Ilfracombe.
It was a nice walk along the harbour, taking in some of the shops, drooling at the ice creams and the fudges. We then decided to book a cruise to see the seals and the coastline of North Devon. The departure time was 2 hrs away so a walk through he town was the answer to pass the time. I cant say i was much impressed with the shops there, but we did find a cafe so i could sink my gnashers into a sausage butty.
It was time to head back to the harbour to board the Ilframcombe Princess, the clouds started to come over which was typical, but i didnt care. we left the harbour and pushed our was towards Woolacombe. The boats captain was very knowledgable and spilled out some interesting information about the Bristol Channel and the coastline.
We eventually reached to seals only to find there were 4 on the rocks, i've seen more than that in Cornwall without even trying. But the sun was now out and it was a relaxing time with some great views. It was time to head back to the harbour, on the way we passed the 4 seals again, watched a sunfish flap his fin in the air as though he was waving at us, and watched the usual seabirds flyby.
Back on terrafermer we did a bit more of the touristy things before finding a lovely fish and chip cafe called Maddy's. They were very polite and served lovely fish and chips, so if your in the area i would recommend a visit.
Back in Croyde my good lady wife decided to take to the pub where we finished the day supping few beers before going to bed.
I like todays image as it is a ship that used to regularly sail from my home town Newport, not sure it does these days. I did see it a few years ago setting sail from the transporter bridge in Newport, i wonder if it still does from time to time
