The Good News - and the not so Good
Arran has a splendid 'local' paper; at a time when news is termed 'fake' or 'alt' and politicians seem unaware of the power of the local community in addressing issues, it might seem easy to scoff at this Page 2 headline. But this is a vibrant tourist area with visitors from all over the world and in increasing numbers; Road Equivalent Tariff has further increased visitor numbers and expectations of facilities will be high. Toilets near beaches and play areas are not a luxury but a necessity; the villages which have been willing and able to keep loos open are to be congratulated and some plan devised to avoid a summer of women and children searching for well-positioned bushes in other areas. In one village various businesses invite people in need to use their toilets even if they are not customers; imaginative and welcome. Here is a local paper showing that such matters are not trivial or joke-worthy
