this evening, after an hour of hilarity around the fixing of our stove, we took a beautiful, pack-free five-mile, hike from our camp on an inland lake to the shores of lake superior. on our agenda: a refreshing swim in the cold waters, and cooking dinner on the rocky shoreline. a perfect evening in the backcountry.

although i love calling the shore of lake michigan home, lake superior is by far my favorite of the great lakes. as i child, i could almost always count on a summer vacation camping alongside this natural wonder. i quickly fell in love with the craggy coastline, isolated white sand beaches, and cold clear waters. a love that only seems to grow with time.
