Ruffled feathers!
Saturday
We treated ourselves to a bit of a lie in this morning, after two days of unpacking, then worked a bit more at putting things away before going to the cinema to see La Traviata, Opera from the Met simulcast. We used to see these in France too, but over there they were in the evening, which we prefer. It just doesn't seem right going to the cinema in the early afternoon, especially on a beautiful sunny afternoon. It was a great performance, though a rather strange, modern and minimalist set, with contemporary costumes, rather than 19th century as it is supposed to be. I have to admit to not being a real fan of operas, Shakespeare etc being brought up to date - call me old-fashioned! After the opera, we went for a walk around Voice of America Park, where the red-winged blackbirds were very much in evidence, together with an information panel warning you that it is Spring, and therefore nesting time, and the red-winged blackbirds can become extremely protective, "dive-bombing" you if you get too close! Although sunny, it was very cold and, as you can see from the birds feathers, rather windy!
