for Lady Balfour
Twenty or so years a scrap metal dealer friend of mine delivered me some top soil as a favour. Whilst one cannot look a gift horse in the mouth I have to say that I have been digging stone out of it ever since.
This is the last of it however and so with one last effort I am now riddling these mounds and the fine soil generously mixed with compost and wood ash makes a good medium for growing potatoes.
The variety of potato is called Lady Balfour. These are my own seed saved from last year. They particularly like organic conditions.
So I will lift a glass when this job is finished and look forward to a fine crop of Lady B in a few weeks time!
