solitary seal

While photographing a colorful seagull on the beach (see the Heermann's gull in extra) I happened to notice something bobbing on the incoming waves. At first I thought it was debris, or a person swimming, and then I thought it might be a dog in trouble. But after watching for a bit, I realized it was a very relaxed California seal!
