Jaffna peninsular

I hired a motorbike today and went out to the islands off the Jaffna Peninsular. The islands are mostly connected by causeways and some by boat. A couple of meters rise in sea levels and much of them could disappear. The water around the islands is very shallow and is good for fishing – both humans and birds were trying their luck. The combination of water, white sands, coconut trees and brightly coloured birds makes the area very beautiful.

The extra shows a temple that I think must have been repainted recently because the colours are so bright. The structure is similar to the one I blipped yesterday but it’s much more colourful. The area suffered badly during the war and some of the islands were badly hit by the tsunami. There were also a lot of ruined buildings – houses, temples and churches.
