Coven

I’m still on a massive high after a fantastic night of music and merriment (if ‘bonfemie’ isn’t a word, it should be!) at Liverpool Philharmonic’s Music Room tonight in celebration of International Women’s Day.

You may recall that I Blipped the mighty O’Hooley and Tidow back in October www.blipfoto.com/entry/2233195551011112895 and they were back in town again tonight in the company of the glorious Lady Maisery (Hannah James, Hazel Askew, and Rowan Rheingans – exemplary musicians and vocalists, all) and the passionate and political songwriter Grace Petrie. Collectively they are Coven. A folk supergroup which kicks up a veritable storm on stage! Each act took turns to perform their own songs but there were also some fantastic collaborations ("Collabs" as they called them) between the whole ensemble.

The musicians' delight in each other's company was infectious, the songs were spine-tinglingly good and the sisterhood was powerful!

I took the opportunity to snaffle a copy of their magnificent ‘Unholy Choir’ EP and to pester the band members for a photo… Thanks to them for being so tolerant! (L-R Grace Petrie, Rowan Rheingans, Hazel Askew, Heidi Tidow, Belinda O'Hooley and Hannah James)

Here they are – exactly a year ago – performing their cover of Kate Bush’s fabulous ‘This Woman’s Work’ www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LzKbnWpIFU

If you get the chance to see any of these acts live – either jointly or severally – then do, please, take it. And/or, check out their albums!
