Tinariwen

In 2007 Slate Magazine posed the question asking whether Tinariwen is the greatest band on earth. I guess that's a decent dinner party discussion, but tonight at The Invisible Wind Factory they put down a marker and a hand on the trophy. The words cannot do justice to how good this gig was and how good this band is. We've seen them before and it's always a bit of a lottery as to who turns up, but when the front man Ibrahim Ag Alhabib takes the stage, then the magic happens. This was sublime guitar and lazy vocals infused with just the right dose of rhythm. And just look at that guitar - a kind of steampunk styled thing of beauty. An amazing night and one that will stay with me for a long time. Even the fact we got soaked on the way home didn't seem to matter. More of this kind of thing, please.
