I spy ....

Something that loves fuchsias as much as I do.
My friend, next door brought Elly round to show me and for me to identify it. I was fascinated as I have only seen this in chrysalis stage before. An elephant hawk moth caterpillar. As Elly roamed around she showed such character, waving her long 'nose' and generally exploring. Consulting the web we learnt that the walking up a gravel drive and ignoring food behaviour could, at this time of year, signal pupation time.... so maybe we will be able to watch her emergence next spring.
