It's cold, it's grey, it's Edinburgh's Hogmanay!

One line goes to the north and the Forth Bridge. One heads into the city. But which one?

Is it me or are there a lot of pied wagtails about this winter? Did they miss the flight south? Or have they wrested the title of Britain's favourite jaunty wee bird from under the beaks of the robins who have made the mistake of overexposing themselves on cards and garden furniture?

And why is it always "pied" wagtail? Is there a less colourful bird simply called the wagtail?

So many questions going into 2009!
