Carved figure in the Chapel on the Bridge
One of about four surviving such chapels in the country, built at the midpoint of the bridge over the river Don in the town of Rotherham, south Yorkshire, in 1483. Travellers would call in, either to pray for a successful journey free of peril, or to give thanks for their safe arrival.
The extra shows the chapel from the town side of the bridge. The founder of my old school also supported the building of the chapel.
The chapel is fully operational, authorised for services including those for baptisim, weddings and funerals.
