Gulwali Passarlay
The final event of my day was a visit to the Forum Theatre for a double bill. First up was the film He Named Me Malala, David Guggenheim's documentary film about Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani teenager who spoke out for education for girls and was shot and nearly killed by the Taliban.
It was interesting to see this in such close proximity to The Eagle Huntress, which is also about a very close father/daughter relationship..
After the film there was a talk by Gulwali Passarlay, an Afghani, who made the dangerous journey from Afghanistan to the UK when he was 13 years old. This was fascinating because he talked of the stability brought to his area by the Taliban, disrupted by the American invasion.
He kindly agreed to be photographed.
Earlier in the day:
Went to the tip (always a good job done)
Shopped for food
Collected Sandra from the station and brought her home to spend the day with us. She and I shared a flat at university, so we go back quite a long way. She has just become a grandmother for the second time.
Took Sandra back to the station at 4pm and then did a little shopping.
Ate a salad in the car.
Chatted to the other Marjorie, who happened to walk past while I was eating!
It's been a great day, but I'm ready for a long sleep!
