A walk in Weardale
Today's long walk started in the tiny village of Rookhope in Weardale. We meandered our way on a route over the moors, via woods, farms and through the villages of Westgate and Eastgate.
The weather was wonderful. Even the short bursts of rain (nearly sleet) in the afternoon were accompanied by beautiful light.
This is our lunch stop on the River Wear. Alistair could not resist a little casting practice.
25 of us went out today. We ended the walk in the Rookhope Arms. The landlord laid on a tray with tea, coffee, cake and biscuits, all on the house. It's a grand little pub.
Miranda, our leader, said the route was 11.5 miles and a bit more..........
Peter's GPS measured 12.1miles and Geoff's said 11.7 (or was it the other way around)! It felt like 12 with all the mud.
