Dawn of a New Reflection - Washington, DC

The Reflecting Pool in Washington, DC has been closed since October 2010 for major renovations. It opened back up to the public on Friday, August 31st.

I went down at dawn today in hopes of catching the reflection of the Lincoln Memorial and the moon in the Reflection Pool. The moon was out but too far to the south. But even without the moon, the view was just spectacular. I had the company of about 10 other photographers who each marked their "territory" and were all very courteous. I didn't know this until today, but the Reflection Pool is one of the top most photographed spots in the United States.

The old reflecting pool was over 80 years old and had major problems (sinking and leaks). The new design is shallower and circulates filtered water from the Tidal Basin (no longer relies on a city water feed).

Sunday will be catch up day for comments. Hope you all are well and having a great weekend!

BTW - This was my first attempt at a "long" exposure using a tripod and a remote.
