American Gothic

A full-on day today. Our first port of call was the Royal Academy of Arts, where we went to see and exhibition on depression era American paintings. It included works by such luminaries as Georgia O'Keefe and Edward Hopper, but the most iconic image was Grant Wood's "American Gothic". It's the first time it has been exhibited outside North America. A brilliant exhibition. We had intended to have a wander around Covent Garden after that, but as it was raining quite heavily, we had a leisurely coffee to rethink our strategy, and decided to go to the Natural History Museum. On the way there we got caught in a very heavy shower and made an unscheduled sheltering stop in Harrod's Food Hall. Eventually we got to the museum and went to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition. So inspiring!
