Where are the eyes?

When I lack inspiration and there seems to be nothing in the garden I have not yet photographed I just sit and watch. Usually, something shows up. Today it was this odd insect which was very close to me but at first appeared to be debris. It is only about 4 mm long and I had difficulty determining the location of the head. I never did locate the eyes. It was a shy insect that always managed to keep its head facing away from me.
