"Old" Dubai
All the pictures today are courtesy of G. I drove while she clicked... two out of three from a moving car!
We decided to head out to what is now referred to as old Dubai. For me, it is just Dubai as the area in these shots is where I grew up. It has changed. A lot. What I haven't posted here is pictures of the first cinema (Plaza), now being demolished! A bit of history gone for ever.
The main picture is driving down Al Fahidi street which use to be the main electronics and textiles souk. The first extra is three SIM vendors. Never seen anything like it before, but they must be legal as they have proper booths! And the last is looking out to the Creek and one of the abra landings. The watchtower isn't authentic; it was put there a few years ago to signify watchtowers of old that use to line the Creek.
Not much else to say about the day. Hillsong (United) are coming to Dubai at the end of April - for two nights even. I managed to secure tickets for the second night; and had to meet up with someone outside a metro station to collect them!! It seemed like a bit of a pullaver. Apparently, they were only allowed to sell so many tickets online, and I obviously missed the opportunity, so now the organisers travel out to deliver tickets and collect cash. Hmmm...
There was every intention of having a home cooked meal when we got back, but time ran away, and a Yahala shawarma did very nicely instead.
