This morning we went to see The Radical Eye: Modernist Photography from the Sir Elton John Collection at Tate Modern. And what a great exhibition it is. hildarose was blown away by it, when she organised a blipmeet there, and I was too (and I bought the book!). It certainly makes you think about photography as art in a completely different way. There are no landscapes or pretty pictures here – these photographers were pushing boundaries with film cameras and created some of the most amazing pictures I have ever seen. Some of the experimental work was quite surreal, some of the portraits and documentary work extremely thought-provoking. I was especially pleased to see Dorothy Lange’s Migrant Mother (1936) (see extra) amongst the collection, as I had read a book about this (recommended by NannaK when we went to the US).
 
The unexpectedly lovely weather made us change our plans for more gallery/museum visits in favour of a walk along the South Bank.
 
We also had a super lunch at The Swan at the Globe.
And some great bus rides.
   
Tonight we are going to the Barbican to listen to some Beethoven – Murray Perahia at the piano.
