Almost Sundown

Just before sundown, I walked into the front yard to view this scene. Earlier when I had come home from the campus, the sky was thick with dark clouds, and it was very hot and humid. Four hours later those clouds had dispersed and this is all that was left. I waited a few moments to see if the colors would turn to stunning, but not tonight. The illumination, though, was very beautiful.

I met two new classes of students today and introduced the course, and before each class I had at least a dozen people asking me if they could "add" the class. Each of them has a compelling story and a serious need to be enrolled in the class. Our English classes have a maximum of thirty students and that is five over the recommendation of the National Council of Teachers of English. So I don't usually add anyone. There wasn't an empty seat in the classroom.

So the fall semester is off and running.
