Sheringham Viking Festival 2017

Today is Jon's birthday, but with Mollie working from 11am to 9.30pm we were limited on how to celebrate together. Jon decided coffee/tea and cakes at 10 in the Victorian Tea Rooms in Cromer, which meant Mollie could be there for an hour before heading to the pier.

We enjoyed lovely tea and cakes, then a quick wander around Cromer, before heading home to do gardening. Jon did the hedge at the front, while I cleared leaves from the bank sloping down to the stream. Tomorrow I will plant a few daffodils that I got in Morrisons already shooting. I also have some tulips coming up in pots. Although it is shady, it is better than them staying in the pots, so they will go in too. The hedge looks loads better.

After a late lunch, we went into Sheringham, to catch some Viking fighting. This is new to us, although clearly this festival has been going some time. Some fierce and very authentic looking 'Vikings' battled to the 'death' for an hour. It was chilly but entertaining. Then we had an hour to kill, before we lined up to watch the Viking longship procession pass us on it's route down to the sea, where it was ritually burned on the beach. My photo's were a distant orange blob of fire, so you have one of the fighting from earlier. Certainly a different way to spend your birthday...well, any day really! It is all happening here in North Norfolk!

Home by 7 and cooking a late frozen chinese take away from Iceland. Definitely the cheaper option to eating out. We will have it when Mollie gets home at about 9.45. Jon and Henry shared chips in Sheringham, so I'm sure we will all survive until then.
