Pietra Ligure Pilgrimage
I was first here in 1965;
I was last here in 1967;
I didn't realise I was that old.
It was the first holiday abroad with my parents and it has passed into family folklore. In fact that holiday and the next half-dozen were enough to provide my parents with conversation for the rest of their lives; it was as if nothing of note happened afterward. There is a lesson for us there.
It is still a lovely resort town, with the added charm of having no British or Dutch tourists apart from us (I'm selfish that way). We ate, we drank and we swam in the sea.
A special mention for last night's dinner. The couple who run the hotel also run a restaurant in the evening. We had grilled beef steak, roast duck leg, fries, white beans and salad, accompanied by a half litre of excellent local red. Followed by chocolate and almond cake, and home-made vanilla slice with chocolate. It was perfect, really.
