Down by the riverside

The river is running quite calmly surprisingly calmly considering the amount of rain we have had over the last few days. Perhaps because we are in a limestone area and the "estunas" which are the underground channels in the limestone drain off a deal of surface water and it emerges in unexpected places.

The afternoon produced a bit of sun and I was intending to try to get a shot of the kingfishers, none to be seen though and I was just clicking on pebbles. As I climbed back up the bank  I saw a fleeting flash of what I thought to be a cat. In fact It was a polecat, a fairly common pest around here, but something I have never seen "au natural" as it were.

It quickly darted into the undergrowth but I managed a quick shot.
