A new area for pumps
12th February 2107:
Harisen is seen here checking the water level in a newly dug well in Mzimba, where he and Jacquie had come to pass wells fit for installations
Storm clouds in the background match the worried faces.
Looks like they will have to dig deeper.
Hoping for a full report later

Visit to Mahowe Mzimba
Date: 09th February 2017

As an aid to Alfred and the pump team we went to visit Mahowe, in southern Mzimba close to Jenda. There we visited four village pumps that had already been dug. One well contained water the rest will need to be dug deeper. The local people have agreed to have them dug in early March, and
The depths were as follows:
- Zeleza village: Well no; 1 8m deep
- Zeleza village: Well no; 2 8.7m deep
- Mahowe village; Well no; 1 6m deep 2m water in it.
- Mahowe village ; well no 2 3.2m deep with dirty water.
More wells are in the process of being constructed in the villages.
The drive was long and the roads of poor quality and sandy, villagers warned in the rains they are very slippery and dangerous. It is closer to Hoho, on the opposite side of the M1 (JendaRoad). The locations are far from the main road. It is possible these wells can be combined with the installation of Hoho wells.
Villages were very friendly chatty and offered any assistance possible. They are aware of us looking for seeds, and will try to provide when we arrive with the wells.
We have come to the same arrangement, about local plants, with a local man called Wanagwa as with Pius in Chigwere so that he can make sure that we don’t have a wasted journey.
