Ouarzazate- Kasbah of Taourirt
The Sahara desert starts on the southern side of the snow-capped Atlas Mountains. Ancient Greece created the myth of Atlas and the Garden of the Hesperides ("Daughters of the Evening") because this land was at the far western end of their world. Then the Arab conquerors called it "Al-Maghrib" because it was the land of the setting sun.
But this is the native land of the Imazighen (the Berbers). Here, they built Kasbahs that look like mud castles. And on they embellished the walls with geometric patterns. Sometimes, it is so exquisite that the shape of a fibula gives the impression that it is a treasure bank.
