Teotihuacan Archaeology Site

Impossible to pronounce and exhausting to visit but it just had to be done! We took the metro from Mexico City centre to that we could pick up a bus for the rest of the journey. The bus journey was 'interesting' with most of the time going through villages with tough speed bumps every few yards - I am not joking! It was interesting to see the urban sprawl of MC and the overcrowded conditions people live in, so reminiscent of South Africa. We did make sure we got a different bus back which took the direct route!

At Teotihuacan we decided to book one of the guides so as to get the most out of the visit. Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke good English. He is originally from this area but has studied in America and can speak French as well as English, actually working as an archaeologist on the Teotihuacan site.

It is vast with so many temples, sacrificial sites and areas where the original people lived. It is a site older than the Mayan and Aztec but quite well preserved, although a great deal of restorative work has been done. We had a thorough tour, climbed many, many steps and walked a very long way all in blistering heat. The biggest pyramid was quite a challenge as the steps are steep and at an angle of 45 ° - that is steep!! My blip shows the scale of the biggest one with four people in the foreground, and others heading up - look closely for the ones in the very far distance as that's how far you have to go to the top. It was daunting but we did it!

A perfect way to spend my birthday as I love ruins. We'll now head out for a meal having refreshed with a shower and cold beer after our hot and busy day.
