Thomas Carlyle's Wee House
A planned blip today. Thomas Carlyle's house in Comely Bank Rd.
Thomas Carlyle, Essayist, satirist, historian, mathematician, lived here with his first wife from 1826 to 1828. He started off as a mathematics teacher. He influenced many people, including Charles Dickens, whose novel A Tale of Two Cities was inspired by Carlyle's The French Revolution: A History. Carlyle himself took inspiration from German Idealism and became an expert on German literature. Like many Victorian thinkers, he also had strong views that influenced the development and rise of both Socialism and Fascism.
