Lock Stock
A Multiple-PostIt-removing day today - getting on with a number of jobs that had been, um, maturing nicely. This included dealing with a couple of the old door locks which are worn to the point of not opening, which can be a bit of a disadvantage from a door-functionality point of view.
These are gorgeous pieces of hardware. As far as I can tell they are original 19th century and each one seems to have been individually handmade, even down to the bespoke bolts holding them together. Each door has a slightly different design.
Typically, the previous owner had added additional locks to the doors so I'm simply removing the striker - keeping it safe and labelled should a future owner have a future restoration project.

Nothing irritates me more than layers of paint slathered over a lovingly crafted and extraordinary precise piece of metalwork. Needless to say, the cover plate is no longer slathered.
