Croquet on the lawn --
--how very English and today, for a change, felt every bit of a proper English summer's day.
We visited Brodsworth Hall in South Yorkshire, not very far away down the motorway but an area I don't know at all.
The croquet looked quite serious, there were two lawns in use and all the players were in white. Just behind the croquet lawn is the formal garden with a view of the house.
Brodsworth Hall
We went really as about a year ago we joined English Heritage at Kenilworth Castle and have made very little use of our membership.
It was very pleasant - we even ate outside - wasps and all. Very English.
