Sunbathing
We actually went to a beach today, though not a typical tourist beach, and just for an hour or so, but it was nice. Flor, the manager of the apartments where we are staying, recommended some "less touristy" places to us, and we decided to follow her advice, and took a day tour based on that. So first we headed east on the highway, drove through Santa Cruz (the capital) without stopping, but parked the car in a small town called San Andrés. There is the beach Playa de Las Teresitas (according to Wikipedia the yellow beach was made of 4 millions bags of sand from the Sahara). Very few people were hanging out at the beach, but this bird was very happy ;)
After a cup of coffee, we continued our drive, and headed north-east through the Anaga mountains. Again it was a winding road, first uphill and then steep downhill to the village of Taganana (we didn't stop there though). Next to Taganana is the the tiny village of Roque de las Bodegas, where we had an excellent lunch in a restaurant by the sea. The area reminded me of Iceland, with it's black beach and rocks out in the sea.
After lunch and a walk, it was uphill again, and a drive through the picturesque Las Mercedes forest, where you literally drive through tree-tunnels. Our last stop was in the city of La Laguna, where we again parked the car and walked to the centrum. It was only 12°C (much colder in the north than in the south part of the island), but at least it didn't rain :)
On our way back home we stopped in the town of La Granadilla, and I had found this restaurant on google, but we just couldn't find it. As it turned out (when we finally found it), it was closed, so we just walked into the nearest burger joint and had some burger and fries.
