There were determined protests by Coventry City fans today at their game against Northampton at the Sixfields Stadium. Supporters are angry with the Club's owners, SISU, a hedge fund, because of the way they have brought the Club to its lowest level - in terms of League position and morale - for over 50 years. One of the many mistakes made by SISU was to relocate the Club, so that Coventry's "home" games were played over 40 miles away in - where else? - Northampton in 2013/14.  This away game, back in Northampton, was always likely to attract protests and disturbances.

Before the game, all seemed good-natured but that didn't last as smoke bombs were let off, initially within the crowd, and then thrown on to the pitch, causing the game to be stopped several times. Some fans invaded the pitch and arrests were made. The Police were out in force aided, it seemed, by the FBI.

In addition to all of that, there was a football match, of sorts, in which Coventry had their captain sent off after just 19 minutes and which ended in a 3-0 win for Northampton. Coventry are now adrift at the bottom of League 1, with the sun setting on their chances of avoiding relegation at the end of the season.
