In El Teide national park
Today we visited El Teide national park. It's only 30 min. drive from our "home" and we had a wonderful day. El teide is Tenerife's highest volcanic mountain, and as they say in Wikipedia: "The volcano and its surroundings comprise Teide National Park, which has an area of 18,900 hectares (47,000 acres) and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on June 28, 2007. Teide is the most visited natural wonder of Spain, the most visited national park in Spain and Europe and – by 2015 – the eighth most visited in the world, with some 3 million visitors yearly.
It is possible to go to almost to the top with a cable car, but we didn't to that this time around. Instead we visited the museum of Juan Evóra, the last shepherd who lived a traditional shepherding lifestyle in Las Cañadas, and took a short walk in the amazing landscape around his hut. Also we stopped at various "mirador" places (mirador is the Spanish word for a breathtaking viewpoint), and took photos. As can be seen by my husband's clothes, it was rather chilly up there, but still we were very lucky with the weather.
