Craigmillar Yew
I met up with the lovely Glicious today and we headed off to Craigmillar Castle.
Unfortunately the weather wasn't great today (as it had been the last time I'd visited) and so we weren't really given the opportunity to see it at its best. Fortunately there are enough dry spots in the castle to make shooting indoors possible during the showers. The rain stopped eventally and we were able to get outside for a bit.
On either side of the entrance to the inner courtyard, two yews were planted to create an entrance feature. A symbol of everlasting life, these evergreen conifers are over 300 years old. The Heritage Trees were historically believed to have provided wood for bows and arrows.
As we left, the skies lightened and so in hope of better conditions we headed to Queensferry to shoot the Forth bridges. Unfortunately, the light came to nothing and in fact the rain returned not long after we arrived. In keeping with the day, a chink of light appeared as we left. Grrr...
I noticed tonight that the sunset was quite nice too. D'oh! Ah well, another time!
Thanks for a great day G!
