Brown Hairstreak butterfly

Some butterflies overwinter as tiny eggs.
One species that does this is the rare and beautiful Brown Hairstreak.
It lays its eggs on young Blackthorn growth. They are usually at a twig junction and often on the side facing south.
As the butterfly has been seen in a local nature reserve in recent years enthusiasts have carried out a search for eggs.
They were successful. Here is a shot of one of the tiny white eggs.
I am grateful to Butterfly Conservation for information on its Website.
As I don't have a macro lens and the close up setting on my camera is not quite up to this, I had to borrow Mrs. K's Canon Ixus for this shot.
