Handmade
Granville Island: Back on the bike no.3
Sunday afternoon, we set off to go swimming at the Kits outdoor pool but on our slow cycle there the temperature seemed to get suddenly cool. Our plans diverted to lunch at the best fish and chip place in Vancouver, Go Fish! and a walk around Granville Island market. That's where we came across an amazing handmade wooden Canadian canoe, it was so tactile and exquisitely beautiful. There was also a handmade wooden kayak, if you've a spare $5500 I'd say it's a sound investment!
On our way to Granville Island we had passed a surprising number of Scottish flags at False Creek, a crowd of people and some gazebos. It was an event organised by Sons of Scotland, to celebrate Scottish heritage.. We were just in time to watch some Scottish dancing. In much the same way as on St Patrick's Day every Vancouverite decided they were Irish, it seemed that anybody passing False Creek today was ready to declare themselves Scottish.
If that wasn't enough activity for a day already, we also saw a man- Josef, balancing rocks to create impossible looking stacks. He must be the same person who made these.
The cycling is improving slowly, I went much further today and managed a few downhills, I still much prefer the hills! Back to work tomorrow after a 3 week break.
