Repairing lock gates

On my daily walk I went to check out how maintenance work of the first lock of Saimaa Canal at Mälkiä is progressing. I was lucky to arrive there just at the right time, when welder was flame cutting some pieces of the lock gate. Also the canal between locks Mälkiä and Mustola  was cleared out of water (check the extra images). This year maintenance break is two months longer than usual from 15.1.2017 till 28.4.2017 due that all 8 lower lock gates will be repaired.
