Barranco de Guayadeque
A very short drive to begin our hike up through the gorge or Barranco de Guayadeque. There are a few homes built into the many caves along the way, the occupants seem to be farming a few terraces or keeping some bees. There is a local cactus flower honey as well as almond blossom. It was like walking in a botanic garden the flora on the slopes being so varied and prolific! As we climbed we passed through terraces of almond trees and then at the top open pine woods. The trail took us along a ridge with spectacular views over the mountains, before descending along a lovely path back. Nearly seven hours of walking and climbing to 1,700m my knees are sore now!!
