This was made from a scrap piece of walnut that had a large knot with cracks and . I resawed the board to create two mirror-image slices, and glued them edge to edge. Then I filled the voids with epoxy, which appears to be black, unless it's back-lit -- see extras.

I want to design a more practical system for back-lighting!
