Tan Ear

Crossing a very muddy field in the rain with the spaniel this morning I spotted this large fungi on the bare soil. I think its an Otidea, possibly Otidea alutacea which is sometimes called "Tan Ear" for obvious reasons. 

Talking of ears - my Gideon Mantell portrait (yesterday's blip) now has one (as well as eyes).
