visiting to the crooked spire town...
There was a crooked man and he walked a crooked mile,
He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile.
He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse.
And they all lived together in a little crooked house
that's not the actual story about the crooked spire of Chesterfield....i'm sure Mr Pick can fill us in! something to do with lead, or black death?!
used to work in Chesterfield and had happy times there. you can tell how long ago it was cos mum and rene used to bring Pete (21) and Greg (18) as little boys, up on the train to meet me at lunch. its a lovely market town, and has now changed so much for the better too. nonsolovino is a must for anyone not to have visited Chesterfield!
anyway, enough of me marketing it! the reason for the visit is that on a couple of bank holiday saturdays a year, i take mum and rene for a little shopping trip. nice walk around the town and a coffee or two along the way. as i drove down the A617 towards spiretown, the clouds gathered, as they always used to! rain on the way!
a couple of torrential downpours, and a couple of hot spots! bit of shopping, coffee then home, but not before i capture a nice shot of the crooked spire!
home, lunch and then me and mum turned into a pair of heir hunters....without the bounty! on the hunt to find the burial places of a few ancestors to answer a few questions! visited Brinsley Cemetery and found mums grandparents, brilliant.
then onto Underwood Cemetery, i dodged a few showers looking at headstones, whilst mum was the uninvited guest at a wedding there...'i've got to see the bride'....you don't know her!!!
more thunder and showers cut short my visit to Eastwood Cemetery, will go back soon.
home and top lasagne for tea, nice glass or two of a fine italian red, bag of maltesers, and i'm like a 3* Michelin restaurant!
the main course is yet to come though, watching BBc3 Reading festival live, and Kasabian on a 9.50pm!!! cannot wait!! (only to be bettered by my beloved Foos tomorrow!!)
this is a proper bank holiday!!
