African Penguins
Where do I begin? Well we started the day early, up at 6ish. By the time we got to the beach at 7.15 it was buzzing! It felt like life was just one great big beach day. Swim number 1.
Breakfast at the infamous Olympia Cafe in Kalk Bay. On to Simon's town then for a wander before the main event of the day. By 10.30 we were on a boat heading to Seal Island, a breeding colony that's home to about 70,000 Cape Fur Seals. The boat ride was a buzz, big swell, high speed. That big lens I borrowed for this trip, I still can't hold it steady! Especially on a boat in big seas. So no great photos but a lovely trip .
Moving along the Cape then to see the penguins on Boulder's beach. They are so accustomed to humans they are not put out by us at all. But there are plenty of rangers making sure we don't get too close. I took the shot above just standing in the water and holding my camera below the surface.
On our way home then we stopped at Kalk Bay again for more delicious seafood. I did get to see seals close up being fed scraps by the fishermen, but not intentionally.
That was was a loooong lovely day.
