Greenfinch

He just loves sunflower hearts and I'm a bit partial myself so don't blame him for snacking between meals.

We used to have over a dozen all flock in from the hedgerow ( I do the RSPB count every year) but when we suddenly started finding ridiculous numbers dead on the terrace we knew something was very wrong. Initially we had thought that, like other birds had done previously, they had flown into the window but then realised it was the Greenfinch virus Trichomonosis which inflames the gullet. This was 2010 and it is only now their numbers are on the increase here again.

They are really very spoilt but we get so much pleasure from their company it is worth it!! Isn't he a handsome chap?!
