A trip down Memory Lane
Thursday
Roger, Laura and I took Roger's Dad to the Air museum at RAF Cosford today so that he could see a Mosquito aircraft. During the war, as a teenager, his Dad had been evacuated to England with some of his siblings from his Guernsey home. During the later years, when he was living in the Stockport area, he had got a job at a factory, welding the canopies of Mosquito aircraft, yet he reckoned he had never seen an entire plane. So Roger had done some research and discovered that RAF Cosford has one, that was manufactured in the same time period. It was a lovely sunny day, so we had a very pleasant drive through the countryside to get there. They had a large selection of aircraft, some outside, and some in three different hangars. Knowing that his Dad isn't up to doing very much walking these days, we headed straight for the hangar containing the Mosquito, and spent some time looking at it and listening to some of Bernard's reminiscences. We looked at some of the other planes in two of the hangars, then went to have a late lunch in their cafe. By this time Bernard felt he had done enough for the day, so we headed home. It had been a very satisfying day, and his Dad had really enjoyed it, though unfortunately he did pay the price later in the evening. The rest of us went out to church in the evening to carol singing round the tree - an opportunity to get together and request your favourite carols. We sang for at least an hour and a half and then were treated to tea or coffee and mince pies!
