Bug watching
We had a good sleep last night. All was well in the world.
We ended up watching a couple of cicadas hatching. They crawl up from under the dirt and climb up to a safe hatching place. My leg was one of their climbing zones (yikes!), but we repositioned them to sticks so that we could have front row seats for the hatching show.
It took an hour and a half from cracking through its exoskeleton to taking its first tentative flight. Unfortunately, its flight was straight onto Cousteau's bed. We managed to rescue it and give another go!
We were so enthralled by it; what an amazing privilege to be able to watch something so incredible.
Thought you might like to have a look too.
It started raining tonight. We headed off for a walk and part way along the track, the heavens opened. Thunder, lightning and torrential rain meant that our little Cousteau was rather stressed out.
We raced back to camp to get changed and to rescue our campsite, which was flooding! All was well in the end and there was no harm done!
A very exciting first day of camping.
Night all.
