22C light breeze. An occasional dark cloud, but otherwise a lovely day.
I harvested the last two giant pots of second early potatoes this morning. Not the biggest crop I have produced. Washed off the compost and left the potatoes to dry in the sun. A late morning walk has become the norm this week, so Maeve the Deerhound and I set off not long after 11am again. Still not using the bridle path route though. Straight down the road to the shore. Combine harvester still sitting in the field, going nowhere.
Along the cycle path and over the level crossing to the beach. Just one dog walker in the distance towards Carnoustie and heading in that direction. Tide out. A nice strip of firm damp sand for Maeve to walk on. One nice green piece of Sea Glass.
Activity at the Fishermen's huts when we got there. The red tractor was just starting off. It went along the front of the huts, then turned and went down one of the gaps in the dunes and across the beach towards "Valhalla VI" which was lying on the sand out at the edge of the water right at the furthest point the rocks reach. Loading up with bait for the creels I think. The owner of the other frequently used creel boat "Shamara" was preparing some hand lines. Another chap was getting his bike out of a hut and was getting ready to cycle away. Maeve and I said hello to the man sorting the hand lines, then wandered back down to the beach the way the red tractor had gone to have a look at "Wee Peem". I looked closely for more orange. I found more than one spot. Then I saw this interesting layered split. Blip :-)
No one at the cottages today. At the car park there was a roofers van, and up on the roof of the big house on the corner were two roofers. Tiles were being replaced. Quiet on the rest of our walk. Just a few people on the streets as usual. We did meet our favourite jolly postman in the road we walk along before the last turn for home.
Later, after lunch, the potatoes have been put away in the garage, and there has been mowing and strimming.
The combine harvester has begun harvesting. Tractors with trailers full of grain are passing by from time to time.
