Where is the snow?
We had such an early start this morning to get our 7.10am flight to Zurich. The airport was relatively quiet for this time of year which was a pleasant surprise. We saw the most incredible sunrise above the cloud inversion just before we landed at Zurich, and yet Zurich itself was grey, foggy and dull - just like London has been. No snow in sight!
Driving up the valley, with about half an hour to go to our destination we came out of a tunnel and into a beautiful winter wonderland, with freshly fallen snow covering all the trees. It was still foggy with a bank of dark blue/purple fog approaching from the east. (see extra photo). Oh good, we thought, there will be plenty of snow at our village - but as we drove through this thick, dark blue fog it suddenly lifted to reveal brilliant sunshine, blue skies...and no snow! This is a view of the village basking in that sunshine, and with very little of the white stuff around - although I believe there is enough on the top of the mountains to ensure some good skiing.
We unpacked, I decorated the Christmas tree, and then Gavin and I went and bought groceries. We are now having a quiet evening in - poor Luke is feeling rotten with a very bad cough and cold. I don't think he will be skiing tomorrow if he is no better.
